New Haven to Host Awards for Emerging Tech Companies Connecticut’s hottest new technology companies and startups will be honored at the 3rd Annual Innovation Pipeline Awards, to be held September 17 at the Omni Hotel in New Haven. The awards will recognize emerging technology companies judged to have an outstanding technology product or service which is either in beta or is already being sold in the marketplace. Eight companies will be honored with Innovation Pipeline Awards, but some 125 companies designated “Companies to Watch” will have a chance to introduce themselves and their products to the 75 angel investors expected to attend the event. “It’s tough to find funding out there these days,” said Matthew Nemerson, CEO of The Connecticut Technology Council, the state’s industry association for the technology sector and host of the Innovation Pipeline Awards. “Angel investors are providing funds traditionally offered through venture capitalists. This event is designed to allow investors and companies to get to know one another quickly because there is a real hunger for face-to-face contact.” Nemerson said that the types of firms who appear at the meeting will usually raise as a group $15m to $30 m each year from all sources such as angels, VCs and exits. This year, the event is expected to attract up to 400 participants, including companies, investors and others. The event, held last year in Norwalk, moved to New Haven thanks to sponsorship by the Economic Development Corporation of New Haven. Last year, eight New Haven area companies were honored. “New Haven has long been Connecticut’s technology hub and holding this event in the city recognizes the exciting work taking place here,” said Michele Whelley, CEO of the Economic Development Corporation. “And our location makes it easy for companies and investors to meet.” This year’s event will attract investors from Connecticut, Boston, New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. |
