Higher One Goes Public

7/1/10

New Haven’s own Higher One issued an initial public offering (IPO) of stock on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, June 17th, 2010.  Going public was the latest milestone for the Science Park-based financial services company founded by three Yale undergraduates in 2000.  They currently employ 180 people in New Haven and are one of the city’s fastest-growing companies.

Trading under the symbol ONE, the company sold 3 million of its own shares at its initial opening raising over 35 million dollars. Higher One, which contracts with colleges and universities nationwide to handle a wide array of financial services, plans to use the funding to both expand its workforce and move to a larger location.  Negotiations are currently underway with developer Carter Winstanley to move the company into much larger planned new office space at 275 Winchester Avenue across the street from their current location at 25 Science Park.  Higher One would like to expand in the next 18 months.

Congratulations to Higher One and its staff on this historic achievement!
