EDC New Haven Welcomes Our New CEO

6/1/10

On May 12, 2010 the Economic Development Corporation of New Haven (EDC) welcomed its new CEO, Anne Gatling Haynes. Haynes returns to New Haven to succeed Michele L. Whelley, who left the organization in March.

Haynes has held leadership roles in architecture, project management, and community development.  She recently served as the Design Director/Program Manager for the City of New York, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development.  Prior to that appointment, she was a Senior Associate at Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects of New Haven.   Haynes has been involved in various community development projects that have contributed to the strengthening of urban neighborhoods, such as CitySeed, which she co-founded.   Haynes earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Virginia School of Architecture and a Master’s Degree from Yale University’s School of Architecture.

David Silverstone, Board Chairman of the EDC, commended the new appointment, saying that Haynes has the know-how to continue to move the EDC forward in its business retention, attraction and neighborhood revitalization efforts.   “Anne’s background and experience make her an excellent choice to lead the EDC, Silverstone said.  “She has the foresight and management qualities to guide the EDC in this evolving economic climate.”

Mayor John D. DeStefano said “we are pleased to have secured such a high caliber professional that knows New Haven and its vibrant communities”.  Kelly Murphy, the City’s Economic Development Administrator echoed the Mayor’s comments, adding that she and “the entire City economic development team is looking forward to working with Anne to continue to build economic prosperity in New Haven”.
