New Haven Retail Booms During the Bust At a time when retail has slowed across the U.S., nearly 30 new retail stores have opened in New Haven. Much of the retail growth has taken place in three areas, Whalley Avenue, Grand Avenue and Foxon Road. The new retailers include: Eleven restaurants: Elaine’s Healthy Choice, 117 Whalley Avenue; Village Café, 526 Whalley Avenue; Jamaican Takeout Kitchen, 36 Howe Street; Pizza Haven, 34 Howe Street; Jo-Jo’s Coffee Shop, 1175 Chapel Street; Mexican Gran Deli, 313 Grand Avenue; Salsa’s Restaurant, Mar y Tierra Restaurant, 240 Grand Avenue; Italy’s Best Pizza, 257 Grand Avenue; Vic’s Deli, and Dolci Lounge, 932 State Street. Two grocery stores: Aldi’s, 466 Foxon; R and D Groceries, 36 Howe Street. Two auto part stores: AutoZone outlets at Dwight Place Plaza and 466 Foxon. Two cell phone stores: Phone Store, 1289 Chapel Street, and Turq Cell, 263 Grand Avenue. Two barber shops: Carlito’s, 309 Grand Avenue, and Orlando’s, 97 Grand Avenue. In addition, new retailers include an auto detailer, Auto Salon, 43 Howe Street; a locksmith, Park Street Lock and Safe, 177 Park Street; a sporting goods store, La Casa Del Deporte, 118 Grand Avenue, and a beauty supply store, Grand Beauty Supply, 276 Grand Avenue. |
